Gombu

It's been a bit since we have blogged. Unfortunately not much has been going on. Last Sunday Dan and I gave talks in our ward AND got new callings...we are teachers in the Primary! We haven't done that calling in awhile and are very excited.

Last week Kara got really sick. She's finally over it (except for the cough and runny nose...does that ever go away) but now she is teething poor thing. Lily got sick with the gombu yesterday. Luckily she is not as sick as Kara was. Dan and I are faithfully taking Zicam so we don't get sick.

Other than that I can't think of anything new. Just plugging along. Hope all is well with everyone and that everyone is healthy!

I've been meaning to blog about this for awhile: Do you all remember when we were young and we could play in the front or back yard or at the neighbor's house? If we wanted to ride our bikes we would just ride around the block...without helmets and without parents following us?

Things have changed. I can't just send Lily out the front door to play with her friends. If they want to play then I have to be out there, too. Play groups have become more common but let's be honest how many play groups can I have and still get stuff done at the house?

Anyways, I was just remembering the good old days when life was simple. And I wanted to ask: what do you do with your kids when they want to go outside and you just can't? How do you entertain them?

The Treasure Box

We went garage selling on Saturday. Lily found a junky old box that she had to have. They gave it to her for 25 cents. We decided to redo it. Here is the before:

I wasn't able to get all the paint off. It was pretty stuck.

Here is the after:

It's not quite done but pretty close. I think it turned out to be much cuter than before and it was a great craft project for Lily. Kept her busy for quite awhile.

Pals

Lily has had a really hard time moving from northern Utah. She really misses her friends (if any of y'all want to do Skype, we are all for it!). Slowly she is making friends here, though. One of her first friends is a little girl named Adeline. She is so fun! The girls get along great.
The girls doing hair outside of their tent. This tent was also the temple where they were all able to get married.

Playing babies inside the tent.

At the park.

Playing playdough. They would make a cake and then sing happy birthday to "My Mommy" and then argue over whose Mommy they were really singing it to. The girls are really great about letting Kara be apart of it all.

Pyrex will explode....

If put on a hot plate. I pulled our German pancakes out of the oven and put it on a hotplate that I didn't know was on. Dan and Lily and I were standing across from the stove (about 2 steps) when the 9X13 pan exploded. Lily was so scared she was shaking and crying. The only injury was that Lily had a small cut on her arm. We're still finding shards of glass. Oh, and we had to have oatmeal instead of german pancakes for breakfast. Bummer.

It was a busy day...

Lily's Tumbling Class

Lily has been taking a tumbling class at the local rec center and she loves it. She has made a lot of fun friends. She loves helping her teacher!
The class is in a racquetball court.

This is the coolest half ball! Lily jumped and jumped on it.

The teacher has them roll across the mat and then do scissor legs over to the ball.

Somersaults! The picture with Lily hold her hands up is the "tree" pose according to her teacher.

The teacher is fantastic! She is the most patient person I have ever seen. Last class she had to put a little boy in time out. She sat him down next to her while she stood to explain the next activity to the class. Before too long the little boy was gnawing on her pant leg like a little puppy! It was so funny. The teacher just grabbed away her pant leg and kept talking.

Kara Eats

Kara loves food. The first picture is the face Kara has when she looks longingly at our food. She hates baby food! She wants to eat what we are eating. A couple of times I have smashed carrots from my dinner to give to her but she loses interest because she wants the food to be just like ours.

Both of our girls are very expressive. Kara is our happy child. She hardly ever is without a smile on her face!
